Black Silicon Carbide

Silicon Carbide (SiC), is brittle and sharp grains, known as Carborundum, is a convetional abrasive containing silicon 
and carbon.
The Silicon Carbide is made from silica sand and petroleum coke in resistant furnace at a range of temperatures, between 1600 °C (2910 °F) and 2500 °C (4530 °F).

Silicon carbide includes black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide.
Black silicon carbide is made from quartz sand, petroleum coke and high-quality silica, which are smelted at high temperature in a resistance furnace.
Its hardness is between corundum and diamond, but its mechanical strength is higher than corundum.
Green silicon carbide is made from petroleum coke and high-quality silica, and salt is added as an additive. It also smelted at high temperature in a resistance furnace. Its hardness is between corundum and diamond, and its mechanical strength is higher than that of corundum.

Application

The Usage of Silicon carbide:

1. In the electrionics industry, silicon carbide can be used as lightning arrester valve body, silicon carbon electric heating element, far infrared generator, etc.

2.As one kind of popular abrasive, it is commonly used to polish the surface of optical glass or metal pipes.

3. Low-grade silicon carbide can be used as steelmaking deoxidizer and cast iron additive.

4. In the carbon industry, silicon carbide can be used to produce bricks for iron-making blast furnaces, such as graphite silicon carbide, silicon carbide bricks combined with silicon nitride, etc.

5. In the production of graphite electrodes, silicon carbide is also used as the coating refractory sintering material of oxidation-resistant coating electrodes to add the coating's ability to withstand sharp changes in temperature.

6. In the manufacture of special carbon materials-biochar, propane and trichloromethylsilane are often used as gas materials. After high temperature pyrolysis, the silicon-containing pyrolytic carbon coating is accumulated on the graphite substrate to add products. The hardness, strength and wear resistance.

Silicon carbide deoxidizer is a novel high-performance composite deoxidizer, which can replace the more expensive traditional deoxidizer ferrosilicon powder and alloy powder. It is suitable for deoxidation when ordinary steel, alloy steel and special steel smelting. The silicon carbide deoxidizer has can promote deoxidation, and effectively increase the recovery rate of elements. and also have the effect of increasing carburization, replacing part of the carburizing agent, and reducing costs in steelmaking. Using silicon carbide as a steelmaking deoxidizer, the quality of molten steel will be stable, and it can refine crystal grains and remove harmful impurities in molten steel.
